What is Collagen?
Fibroblast cells are permanently active skin cells found in the dermis; they can be described as fibre-producing factories. Fibroblasts manufacture Collagen and Elastin.
Collagen is formed by the fibroblasts and is composed of complex fibres made of proto-collagen protein strands that are arranged in long chains. Vitamin C is essential for the production of healthy collagen, which is important for the tone and structure of the skin. If the fibroblasts are damaged (by sunlight, stress, free radicals), they will produce defective collagen and our skin will lose its tone and structure.
